While doing a tour of Ellis Island we left the main building and we walked past this quasi-bridge and I was intrigued. I asked and the guide indicated that this was the place where immigrant would disembark from the boats and set foot onto American soil for the first time.

This hit home for me as the bridge is now lost but the legacies of all the families that crossed that bridge to a new life is not forgotten.
